We are thrilled to welcome Dr Rick Mangat, a global leader in surgical imaging, as a Strategic Advisor to Hypervision Surgical.
Rick is best known as the founder of NOVADAQ Technologies Inc., where he pioneered real-time fluorescence-guided imaging systems that have transformed surgical care. NOVADAQ’s technology, based on indocyanine green (ICG) dye, became widely adopted across surgical specialties and was ultimately acquired by Stryker for $700 million in 2017. This marked a major inflection point in the field, firmly establishing ICG-based imaging as a standard in modern surgical decision-making.
Today, NOVADAQ’s innovations continue to power some of the most widely used platforms in surgery — including Firefly®, the integrated fluorescence system in Intuitive’s da Vinci® robotic surgery platform, and Stryker’s latest 1788 advanced imaging system. These technologies enable real-time visualisation of perfusion and anatomy, enhancing precision and safety in a broad range of surgical procedures. Since its clinical introduction, ICG has become one of the most widely used intraoperative imaging modalities, routinely applied in open, laparoscopic, robotic, and microscopic surgeries.
Rick’s pivotal role in transforming surgical imaging gives him a unique perspective on the development, adoption, and commercialisation of breakthrough technologies in surgery. At Hypervision Surgical, his insight will help guide the commercialisation of HYPERSNAP® — the first certified surgical platform to leverage real-time hyperspectral imaging (HSI) for dye-free, objective, and quantitative tissue assessment. Unlike conventional imaging systems, HSI captures rich, previously inaccessible spectral data, enabling real-time tissue characterisation without the need for contrast agents or subjective interpretation.
Rick will work closely with the board and leadership team to provide strategic guidance on clinical adoption, go-to-market strategy, and commercial partnerships, helping to unlock the full commercial potential of HSI in precision surgery.
